Share House – share an apartment in Tokyo

Looking for an affordable housing where you live together with young people from all over the world? Then Share House is the option for you.

You can stay in a Share House from 3 months and longer, so it is best suited for students and long-term visitors.

Three reasons to stay in a Share House

  1. It is the cheapest option for long term stay in Japan
  2. Share Houses are often quite centrally located
  3. You will live together with young people from all over the world, including Japan, so you can quickly make friends and meet people in a similar situation.

What is the disadvantage of staying in a Share House?

You share kitchen and bathroom with the others who live there so sometimes it can be busy and it might not always be as neat as you would like it. If this is important to you, staying in a studio apartment in Japan could be a good option for you.

Where are the Share Houses located?

We can offer Share Houses around Tokyo, primarily in western Tokyo, where many of the language schools and universities are located. Some examples of locations are Waseda, Shin-Okubo, Ikebukuro, Itabashi, Nakano, and Komagome.

When you arrive in Japan, the accommodation provider will meet you at the station closest to the accommodation and take you there and explain how everything works.

What is included?

You have your own bedroom of about 10 square meters. You share bathroom, kitchen and common areas with the other residents. The Share Houses often consist of several floors.

The exact furnishings vary between different Share Houses but usually the rooms are equipped with AC, desk, chair, bed, shelves, lighting and sometimes a refrigerator. Internet is included either as Wi-Fi or through a LAN outlet. In the common areas, there are cooking facilities such as a microwave, toaster, electric kettle, hob/hotplates, fridge, dining table, chairs, sofa, and TV. There are also bathrooms and a laundry machine. Please note that the equipment can differ between different Share Houses. When you receive proposals of rooms and Share Houses, you will see what is included in that specific house and room.

A cleaner usually comes once a week to clean the common areas and stock up toilet paper, detergent, etc. The Share House company organizes parties about 4 times per year.

Prices and discounts

The price varies between different rooms and Share Houses. The cheapest Share Houses, which are less centrally located, start at about 40000 Yen per month, while the centrally located houses cost between 70000 Yen and 90000 Yen per month. In addition, the cost of electricity, gas, and water, usually about 12000 Yen per month is added.

Before you move in the accommodation company charges 35500 Yen in initial fees (a contract fee, a cleaning fee and a house insurance) in addition, they charge one month’s rent as deposit. This will be returned to you when you move out if you have not caused any damages or violated your contract. Otherwise, the rent is paid in advance on a monthly basis.

Discounts: if you book through our form below you will receive a 5000 Yen discount on the initial fees. In addition, you will also receive 5000 Yen discount on the monthly rent of selected Share Houses. This should be stated on the proposal you receive from the housing company so in a year you can save up to 65000 Yen in discounts.
